Congratulations to Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction, the 2006 Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Champion!!!

Tom Meents, Congratulations on winning the 2006 Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship. How does it feel to be back on top?

It feels great. It feels awesome. I worked really hard for it this year. I'm really happy that I did it and pulled it off without no controversy.

How happy are you with your winning run?

Real happy. It could've been a little better in a couple areas from what I've seen. I haven't had a good look at it yet but there's a couple minor things that I could've made better but it was a pretty good run overall.

How much of it is planned out and how much of it is impromptu?

Well definitely the first move was planned out, quite a bit of the rest of it was planned out but near the end quite a bit of it was impromptu. I actually broke a rear steering centering cable. So there for a while the rear end was turned and so you gotta make due with what you got you know? You can't wait any longer so you gotta go with what it gives ya.

We were there...

MJ might be one of the biggest monster truck fans in the country. He's such a devoted fan, he's made big monster truck fans out of his mom and me, too!

So, as a family, we have been to two monster truck shows in the past few months:
- Monster Jam Peoria on February 4, 2006; and
- Monster Nationals in Champaign, Illinois on February 11, 2006.

It was awesome to meet Tom Meents at the Pit Party at Monster Jam Peoria! And it was great to see him win with Maximum Destruction in Peoria too! Likewise, it was just as cool to meet Mark Hall, the Raminator driver, and Dale Benear, the Rammunition driver, in Champaign at Monster Nationals! You guys (all from central Illinois!) rock!!!

Here are pictures from MJ's first monster truck demo: Raminator was on display at the Dave Mungenast Dodge dealership in Alton, Illinois on August 27, 2005. We met June Hall and Geremie Dishman from the Hall Brothers Racing Team that day and had a great time!

MJ first discovered monster trucks when he was just three years old! Dave Hood's Real Wheels - Mega Truck Adventures DVD was his launching pad into the monster truck world: He played that video over and over again, marveling at big trucks like Big Dummy, Bigfoot, Dragon Slayer and Snake Bite. He simply couldn't get enough of that video and those cool trucks!
